Maryama Cham, rising star in Gambia: Singer’s sharp songwriting and striking voice has won over fans

The Gambian music industry has long been dominated by men but a new young artist has been making waves. Maryama Cham has won plaudits both at home and overseas not only for the sound of her music but also as a champion of causes such as gender equality and climate consciousness. Her powerful voice and poignant song writing have struck a chord with audiences across the region.
